Halal-Zabiha LFK Eats
As Muslims living in a non-Muslim country, it can be extremely difficult to find places that serve halal-zabiha meat. Luckily Lawrence has a few gems that meet the need for the growing Muslim population at KU. Check out these places for some delicious halal-zabiha friendly meals:
-The Fresh Mediterranean Co aka Chebbaros located inside Cenex gas station (1000 W 23rd St)
-Aladdin Cafe (1021 Massachusetts St) *not all items are halal so be sure to check before ordering*
-Mediterranean Market and Cafe (3300 W Bob Billings Pkwy, Suite B5) *make sure to ask for halal meat when you order*
-Argana Cafe (7 E 7th St)

Extra Tidbits of Info :)
The bus system at KU is one of the best ways to get around in Lawrence if you don't have a car. Utilize the MyBusLawrence App as much as you can because it shows the routes/stops the buses take and how far away buses are from the stop closest to you. The buses can take you to locations on/off campus, other buildings, and some grocery stores.
-Bus 43 Red: is nearest to the dorms (there's a stop located right in front of Templin and Lewis Hall)
-Bus 42 Blue: closest to the ICL mosque (this bus will also take you close to the recreation center and Capitol Federal Hall)
-Every bus will take you onto Jayhawk Blvd!
-How to get off at your stop: pull the yellow chains that are located on either side of the bus prior to your stop!
We definitely recommend using Google Maps when walking around campus until you find the shortcuts to get to class on time. KU is a huge campus and it can get confusing trying to find your way around, especially if you haven't figured out the bus system yet, so use Google!
The KU Recreation Center (1740 Watkins Center Dr.) is free to all KU students, you just need your ID to get in! The Rec has basketball/volleyball courts, indoor tracks, fitness and weight centers, and studios for a variety of classes you can take on your own or with a friend. If you choose to take classes, the first one is free and then every subsequent class is $3, so if you are planning on going to a class multiple times a week throughout the semester, we recommend getting a recreation pass for $50 that covers costs for every class you take.
